She's Gone

Ok...not yet, but Ruth leaves for Chicago tomorrow morning. It's me and the kids for three days.

I'm going to assume that my wife, who loves email and the internet, will be checking this site this weekend. So here you are honey!

Ted, Lucas and Nora

Choir Rehearsal

Tonight Ruth brought the kids to the last choir rehearsal of the year. The kids were good. Nora crawled up on the risers and asked to be held and when I picked her up, she snuggled with me. Lucas was his usual goof and pretended he was conducting. Then he pretended he was singing by holding the music and standing beside me.

Dark and dreary, wet and wild

It's been an odd day for me. Dark, rainy, a period of severe dislike of my job and all it represents. Lunch appointment was late, got sort of scolded by my boss for a lack of ownership...yuck.

Luckily, as I came around the corner to my house today, I saw my wife and two kids in rain gear parading around the cul-de-sac in the pouring rain. I laughed and then when I saw Lucas and his sheer joy of plowing through puddles on his bike, I had to laugh. It was the joy of my day.

Lucas learned this song for his preschool graduation,even though he's not graduating. The theme is Hawaiian and the song is Pearly Shells but Lucas sings it as Curly Shells.

Missing My Family

And so our lives roll on. This is a week where I feel like I haven't seen Ruth or the kids. Work has been busy, school is in the last week and the final project, Jon was here visiting and now is gone...

We were talking about our life in the fall with grad school. There will be days I don't see my family. That is the saddest thing. I know it's only two years, but that's two years of my kids I won't be able to recapture.

There it is - I want to capture every good moment and hold them. Moments when Lucas tells me he loves riding his bike or when Nora lays her head on my shoulder and pats my back or when Ruth and I have a moment to lie in bed and snuggle and talk. They seem so fleeting, but really make it all worth it I suppose.

Anyway, I miss my family and look forward to seeing them tonight.

Pig Tails

Nora loves being a girl. These are her first pig tails. Of course they didn't stay in long but they sure looks cute.

Things I've Said

Sometimes I say things that are, well...how a three year old thinks.

The other day, I was supposed to go on a field trip to Carkeek Park. There's this big fish there you can slide down and I was a little nervous about it.

But of greater concern to me was the fact that my teachers, Joan and Bonnie would get stuck in there. So, I asked my mom and dad, "If Teacher Joan and Bonnie go down the fish will the fish spit them back out?"

Anyway, my favorite song right now is One Love by Bob Marley. Everything is going to be alright you know.
